Fighting off Common Cold and Flu

December 15, 2009

With winter comes seasonal illnesses such as the common cold and influenza. Flu, in particular, is more contagious in winter because absolute humidity is low and the flu virus is better able to survive and transmit itself. Often, your mother’s advice is the best bet for prevention, such as that old bit about a teakettle on the stove (that would increase the humidity in your home), or you could consider using a humidifier. Don’t forget to keep warm when you go out with a hat and mittens. Wash your hands frequently, and avoid touching your face, especially when you are around crowds or in public places. Be polite about where you sneeze. Reduce any smoking or drinking habits (smokers are more prone to respiratory infections, and too much alcohol can suppress your immune system). Maintain your overall health by exercising, drinking plenty of water, and getting all your vitamins and nutrients with a multi-supplement like Welltrients One.

If you are particularly susceptible to common cold or flu, or if you are worried about staying healthy when you’re around all your houseguests, or for the holiday festivities in general, then consider supporting your immune system with supplements. Immune PWRx contains a combination of nutrients designed to boost your immune system. By supporting your T-Cells, it allows your body to fight infectious diseases such as the cold and flu. Another key to supporting your immune system is eating a variety of green vegetables, but this can be hard to do during the winter when produce is less fresh, or there is less variety available. So support your diet with Welltrients Green Bulk, which is rich with phytonutrients that help support your immune system.

If prevention fails you, or you’re already sick, then you should first establish what you’re fighting. The common cold affects your body by irritating your nose and/or throat, as well as that dreaded runny nose and sneezing that leave your nose a chaffed red. A flu, on the other hand, will make you nauseated and achy. If you find you’ve come down with either, stay warm, rest, drink plenty of water and continue to support your immune system. Mesosilver is a great supplement for enhancing and supporting your immune system, and it’s a natural remedy, so you don’t have to worry about the ingredients that some over-the-counter products contain, or, if your child’s sick, what drugs you might be giving them. If you’re feeling congested, steam will help clear your sinuses. If you can stomach it, you can also try a spicy meal.

Maintaining a strong immune system not only helps prevent illness but may help shorten the duration of an illness, so make sure you do everything you can to strengthen yours, in addition to following common advice to prevent catching and spreading infectious diseases.
