Get Your Brain In Shape For Summer, Too!

April 16, 2013

Brain ImageOf course you don’t want to neglect your mind (especially when there’s evidence that mental exercise fights decline), but you also want to make sure you’re supporting your physical activity this summer: focus your mind, improve hand-eye coordination, and raise alertness.

Here’s how you can get started:

-You can download games for you phone, like Sudoku, to help sharpen your mind when you have a few minutes to kill.

-Start a hobby that requires hand-eye coordination. Depending on your ability, try a sport like Frisbee, or something more simple like a child’s hand game.

-Try meditation. Start at 5 minutes a day, and you’ll see improvement quickly enough (and want to move it up to 15 minutes!). Just focus on letting your thoughts float away. (They’ll come up, you just won’t follow them).

-Change you diet to support your brain. Add flax to your oatmeal (it’s loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids, and also available in supplement form), and eat more grey matter supporting berries. You can also support your brain with MesoGold, which is reported to boost mental acuity (that includes memory and focus), as well as hand-eye coordination.

-Add more social dates to your calendar. Talking can help stretch your brain, and the interaction can help fight depression (a long as it’s not negative).

-Go on walks, and try and find new things along the route as you go (the smaller the better—wildlife, leaves, or new spring buds are perfect).

Whether you want to remember where you golf ball is, improve your aim, or just be more alert, you can improve your mind along with your brain this summer.
