Old Woman Doing YogaWe’ve said it several times: spirulina is a superfood. It’s a great daily multivitamin, especially if you’re looking for a natural/plant source of iron.

What makes it so special? A lot of foods have been spotlighted as superfoods over the last few years. But spirulina isn’t just the latest hot trend—even astronauts have used it in their diet!

Think of a food that’s known for being a good source of an essential nutrient. Cliché even. Steak is a good source of protein and iron. Carrots are a good source of Vitamin A. Milk is a national go-to for calcium. Rice has a lot of potassium.

Spirulina out performs all of them. By a lot.

And spirulina is a raw food—remember that when you cook those carrots into that awesome recipe you found off pinterest, some of the nutrition is going to break down. Raw foods maintain all of it (with some exceptions, you get more out of cooked tomatoes, for instance). Power to you if you already have a raw food diet—I’ll admit that like most Americans, I’m hooked on pizza, even if I occasionally munch crudités my diet could use a boost!

What’s special about spirulina is that it’s easily digestible. That doesn’t just mean you won’t get stomach upset. Usually when I talk about easily digestible nutrients (what most of our products focus on) it means that it’s easy for your gut/body to grab and use—critical for people who are getting older, or who have digestive issues like Crohn’s or Celiac.

But there’s another implication to it being easily digestible: how densely it’s all packed in there!

Spirulina is a great source of protein, and cheap, too, compared to a steak. With high levels of iron and even B12, it’s a great boost for vegans and vegetarians. It even has all 9 essential amino acids (it has 18 out of 22 amino acids—and importantly, they’re in near perfect ratios for the body to use them optimally).

With high concentrations of protein, iron, amino acids, enzymes, antioxidants, and more, it’s easy to see why having a spirulina supplement like Blu-Lina Organic Spirulina in your diet is a great way to support your diet and your body.
