A new study following patients who’d had a myocardial infarction (AKA a heart attack) found that taking Omega-3 fatty acids afterward made a huge difference (especially if they took a higher dose) with no bad side-effects. Patients who took Omega-3s had improved signs of heart health including less heart inflammation than patients who did it (although it’s not a substitute for lifestyle changes, it performed better and more safely than past drugs).
If you’re following the healthy diet your doctor writes out for you, you’ll get some Omega-3s from sources like flaxseeds, walnuts, and salmon. But given the heart health benefits, you might want to load your diet up a little more heavily.
