If you’re daunted by getting in shape summer, know that it’s easier than you think! Two new studies show easy ways to help get your heart healthy, and your diet in gear so you can achieve weight loss by summer!
First, make exercise easy: if you hate running, try walking. As long as you cover the same distance, it’s just as effective, a new study says. A brisk walk may take longer, but you’ll receive the same lower risk for heart disease & diabetes, as well as lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
If you don’t already have an exercise routine, walking is a great introduction. Just make sure you’re putting in effort, and not just meandering, or you won’t have any weight loss and less heart health-benefits.
To help stop yourself from filling your stomach with a sugary delight after your walk (and ruining weight loss), new research says to start your day with a high protein breakfast. Eggs, peanut butter, or meat (ground or a lean cut) accompanied by whole grains and fresh fruit can help you avoid junk food later by keeping you feeling full.
Paired with exercise, you’ll feel good, and you’ll keep your routine going through the summer. Not only will you start to look better, but feeling better will encourage you to get involved in more summer activities!
